OUR CHURCH

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength. This is the first and the great commandment and the second is like unto it. You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments rest the law and the prophets.

At First Church, we take seriously the Great Commandment and we express our love of God in our worship together and our love of neighbor, through our care for one another, our outreach into the community, and care of God's creation. Although we are a small congregation, we give generously of our resources to the needs of our community in a variety of ways. We support Spooner House with its Homeless Shelter and Food Bank and the TEAM, community action agency with its early education programs, home heating assistance and elderly service programs. Our outreach includes Doctors Without Borders who help the victims of wars and major disasters and The Connecticut Food Bank which supplies many of our local food banks. Our building houses a daily AA meeting and North Star a community resource and support group for families with children with disabilities. (For more information on these community programs, please go to LINKS TO OTHER SITES)

We Are All Ministers! According to our kinship with Christ and our commission to go and make disciples, we are all charged with ministering as Jesus taught us.

In our UCC Statement of Faith, we professes that God calls each of us into God's Church to accept the costs and joys of discipleship, to be servants in the service of others, and to proclaim the gospel to all the world.

With these things in mind, we understand that we share a calling; that we will be challenged at times, and that we will celebrate at other times in responding to that call!
